The update for Google Chrome has been rolling out for the past week. However, people should still check to make sure their version of Google Chrome has been updated. The updated version number is 76.0.3809.132
The security update is for PC’s only as neither Android or iOS versions are believed to be effected.
To check for the update go to the 3 dots in the corner of the browser, then select “help” and “About Chrome”. You can check to make sure your version matches the one listed above.
By following the steps above anyone out of date should see an automatic download of the update triggered. Once completed close down the browser and re-open for the update to take effect.
The vulnerability was listed by the Center for Internet Security on 27th August 2019. They stated
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code in the context of the browser, obtain sensitive information, bypass security restrictions and perform unauthorized actions, or cause denial-of-service conditions.”
The Center for Internet security ranks businesses as the most at risk giving them a Medium-High rank. While households are given a “Low” risk.
Still it’s better to be safe than sorry and make sure your browser is up to date.
