PlayStation 4: Best Games Of The Generation

Today we will be listing some of the best PlayStation 4 games released this generation. (As a side note, before we get started, this list will not be console exclusive).

As the PlayStation 4 draws ever closer to the end of it’s life-cycle, it felt like the right time to discuss some of the visually spectacular and immersive games to grace our screens over the years. Make no mistake, this wasn’t an easy list to conjure together. Inevitably some won’t feature here today. However, that doesn’t mean they still aren’t great games! With that being said let’s crack on with the list.

1. Grand Theft Auto V

Kicking off this list is the behemoth that is Grand Theft Auto V. Since the title’s release GTA V has gone on to make a whopping $6 billion, yes, billion! However, most of that comes from GTA: Online and that’s not the aspect of the game we are going to talk about today.

No, it’s the main story we are focusing on. Which, in itself, is a simply unmissable experience. Grand Theft Auto V does an amazing job of integrating 3 unique characters in one huge storytelling arch. Not to mention the game also makes use of the series unique open-world, in which you can do whatever the hell you want.

Originally launching at the end of the PlayStation 3’s life-cycle, the game was subsequently re-released for the PlayStation 4. If you still haven’t played Grand Theft Auto V….Well, what are you doing here! Get off the article and go buy the game.

2. The Last of Us: Remastered

Continuing on with console re-releases, you simply cannot have a best games for PlayStation 4 list without mentioning The Last of Us: Remastered.

From the opening minutes playing as main protagonist Joel’s daughter, Sarah, you are hooked. However, things will quickly turn against you as the harsh reality of the coming apocalypse draws in, arguably making for one of the saddest starts to a game in, well, ever. From there you take a huge time jump where you are reunited with Joel, now older and much colder to the world than in the opening scenes. However, that all changes once you are tasked with taking Ellie, a girl who is immune to the zombie virus, across a post-apocalypse US in search of a group called the fireflies.

Along the way the game takes you on a epic story, which involves plenty of roller coaster moments where the 2 must survive against all odds. Ultimately this causes you to form a strong bond with both characters as you play through the game, right to the cliff hanger ending which leaves you desperate for more!

3. Spider-Man PS4

Arguably the best Spider-Man game to grace our screens since Spider-Man 2. The new iteration of the game keeps what was great about it’s predecessor and turns it up to 11!

Spider-Man PS4 is a masterpiece and sets the bar to which all superhero games should adhere to. The story is fresh and captivating, skipping the whole origin story and instead opting for a more mature and veteran Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Whether you just want to swing around the big apple and swan drive off Avengers Tower or go all in on the story-mode you will not be disappointed.

On top of all this Spidey goodness you also gain access to awesome suit options, a fantastic photo-mode and even fun side-missions. This is definitely a Spider-Man game you won’t want to miss.

4. God of War

Another storytelling masterpiece. God of War takes you on an unmissable adventure and breathes life and soul into a badass Kratos.

Taking place some years after we last saw the God of War, Kratos is now in Midgard with his son Atreus after his second wife Faye has passed away. Following her last wish, Kratos and Atreus must travel to the tallest peak in all the nine realms to spread her ashes. However, as you may guess all doesn’t go easy once a stranger comes knocking on the family home. From start to finish you will be immersed in the mythical story. Not to mention some excellent boss fights!

Armor/weapon customization is another cool feature in the game. Also, who doesn’t enjoy throwing the Leviathan Axe and summoning it back to you – Can anything make you feel more like a God than this?

Straying away from the main story and the favors for the dwarfs Brok and Sindri are just as compelling. This is also a great way to earn extra experience and get item/upgrades from chest you wouldn’t otherwise find. Check out our God of War Quick Tips For Getting Started.

5. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

This game is just 100% awesome and another unmissable title from Naughty Dog.

Uncharted 4 finds us catching up with Nathan Drake 3 years after the events of Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception. We see our beloved hero is now taking a stab at the quite life with Elena, leaving his fortune hunting days behind him. However, when Nathan’s presumed dead brother Sam shows up that all goes out of the window pretty quick. Now on the hunt for Henry Avery’s treasure the brother duo and Sully (can’t forget Sully!) travel around the world on yet another epic adventure.

The game also features some nice scenes from the brothers childhood, which further develops the backstory and bond between the characters.

All in all Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is an exceptional story which brings a brilliant end to an iconic character.

Shout out to Lost Legacy while we are here!

6. Red Dead Redemption 2

Warning, if you want a game that will fully immerse you into the world created for you, make you laugh and make you want to roll up into a ball sobbing your eyes out then look no further. Red Dead Redemption 2 will undoubtedly leave you with serious trust issues once your done with it.

Throughout the game you play as Arthur Morgan a rugged outlaw and right hand man to Dutch in the Van Der Linde gang. The story follows the rise of society and community and subsequently the loss of the lawless ways of the old west. However, it’s not just the story of Arthur Morgan that makes this game one of the best experiences you will have in your gaming career. Nope, what makes this game great is the open-world Rockstar Games created.

Not only did they make a massive map for you to explore but they bought that map to life. Adding in random encounters, a vast wildlife, compelling stranger missions and GAVIN!…. Just kidding, couldn’t resist. There is no end of things to do in this world, places to explore and unique characters to meet. These are just some of the things that make this game one of the best games of the generation.
